'these' are the those who refused to believe in JESUS and 'the righteous' are those who are saved by God's undeserved gift of grace through faith alone in the blood of JESUS that was shed for the remission of our sins and His resurrection from the dead, and they are also the righteous of the Old Testament and of the coming Time of Jacob's Trouble, aka the great tribulation.
Bible quotes are from the 1599 Geneva Bible and if you use the King James Bible 1611 that's also good. Keep in mind that the KJV was made in response to the GNV (Geneva Bible).
It's ALL about 'I AM SALVATION' 'the ANOINTED ONE' = JESUS the CHRIST according to what our apostle Paul has taught us ON HIS BEHALF in Romans through Philemon.
Read the ENTIRE Bible through (t)his perspective because that's THE GOSPEL OF GRACE by JESUS through Paul.
AFTER the RAPTURE the GOSPEL of the KINGDOM will come into effect AGAIN.

No, because for example Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventists also believe in the person of Jesus Christ and they are NOT saved.
Faith in what JESUS has DONE* for us is what saves!!!
*He shed His sinless blood for the remission of our sins and He rose from the dead, three days later, according to the scriptures.

Choosing not to identify as a "christian" in title, is NOT what saves a person, faith in the person of Jesus Christ is what saves. A lot of us disciples of Christ don't like to identify as christians, due to the fact that the man made term "christian" is associated with flat earthers, quackery, prosperity gospels and many more unbiblical heresies. I personally identify as a disciple of Jesus Christ. I don't need the man made title of "christian" and I most certainly don't see any reason to identify with this foolishness here in america that goes by the name of christianity.

The Geneva Bible was first printed in Geneva, Switzerland, by refugees from England, fleeing the persecution of Protestants by Roman Catholic Queen “Bloody” Mary.
Many copies were smuggled back into England at great personal risk. In later years, when Protestant-friendly Queen Elizabeth took the throne, printing of the Geneva Bible moved back to England. The Geneva Bible was produced by John Calvin, John Knox, Myles Coverdale, John Foxe, and other Reformers. It is the version that William Shakespeare quotes from hundreds of times in his plays, and the first English Bible to offer plain roman-style type in some of its early printings.
The Geneva Bible was the first Bible taken to America, brought over on the
Mayflower… it is the Bible upon which early America and its government was founded (certainly not the King’s of England’s Bible!) The Geneva Bible was also the first English Bible to break the chapters of scripture into numbered verses, and it was the first true “Study Bible” offering extensive commentary notes in the margins. It was so accurate and popular, that a half-century later, when the King James Bible came out… it retained more than 90% of the exact wording of the Geneva Bible.

The Geneva Bible was the “Bible of the Protestant Reformation”, and the Bible of the Puritans and Pilgrims. It was the first Bible taken to America, brought over on the Mayflower. The Geneva Bible is the Bible upon which America was founded. You can imagine, most early American colonists, who were fleeing the religious oppression of the Anglican Church (Church of England), wanted nothing to do with the King James Bible of the Anglican Church!
Textually, the Geneva Bible offered a number of radical never-before-seen changes: It was the first Bible in English to add numbered verses to each chapter of scripture. Also, the Geneva was the first Bible to introduce easier-to-read “Roman Style Typeface” rather than the “Gothic Blackletter Style Typeface” which had been used exclusively in earlier Bibles. Another curious innovation; the Geneva was the first “Study Bible” with extensive commentary notes in the margins.
The Geneva Bible is the version quoted from hundreds of times by William Shakespeare in his plays. Also called the “Breeches Bible”, the Geneva Bible is the only Bible ever able to outsell and exceed the popularity of the King James Bible, as it did in the early 1600’s until its printing ceased in 1644. In fact, one of the greatest ironies of history, is that Protestants of all denominations today embrace the King James Version of the Bible (which reads 90% the same as the Geneva), even though the King James Version is not a Protestant Bible (it’s Anglican / Church of England). Most Protestants have never even heard of the Bible of their own heritage: the Geneva Bible. It was produced by John Calvin, John Knox, Myles Coverdale, John Foxe, & other English refugees in ever-neutral Geneva, Switzerland… fleeing the persecution of Roman Catholic Queen “Bloody” Mary in England. Mary would not tolerate the Protestant Geneva Bible, which proclaimed the Pope an “antichrist” in its commentary notes.

When Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary) became queen of England in 1553, she was determined to roll back the Reformation and reinstate Roman Catholicism. Mary had strong ties to Catholic Spain. She married Philip II of Spain and induced the English Parliament to recognize the authority of papal Rome. Mary met with a great deal of resistance from Protestant reformers in her own country. Mary showed no signs of compromise. The persecution of Protestants followed.The era known as the Marian Exile drove hundreds of English scholars to the Continent with little hope of ever seeing their home and friends again. God used this exodus experience to advance the Reformation. A number of English Protestant divines settled in Calvin’s Geneva: Miles Coverdale, John Foxe, Thomas Sampson, and William Whittingham. With the protection of the Genevan civil authorities and the support of John Calvin and the Scottish Reformer John Knox, the Church of Geneva determined to produce an English Bible without the need for the imprimatur of either England or Rome – the Geneva Bible.
Translation Work Begins In 1557
The Geneva translators produced a revised New Testament in English in 1557 that was essentially a revision of Tyndale’s revised and corrected 1534 edition. Much of the work was done by William Whittingham, the brother-in-law of John Calvin. The Geneva New Testament was barely off the press when work began on a revision of the entire Bible, a process that took more than two years. The new translation was checked with Theodore Beza’s earlier work and the Greek text. In 1560 a complete revised Bible was published, translated according to the Hebrew and Greek, and conferred with the best translations in divers languages, and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. After the death of Mary, Elizabeth was crowned queen in 1558, once again moving England toward Protestantism. The Geneva Bible was finally printed in England in 1575 only after the death of Archbishop Matthew Parker, editor of the Bishop’s Bible.
England’s Most Popular Bible
While other English translations failed to capture the hearts of the reading public, the Geneva Bible was instantly popular. Between 1560 and 1644 at least 144 editions appeared. For forty years after the publication of the King James Bible, the Geneva Bible continued to be the Bible of the home. Oliver Cromwell used extracts from the Geneva Bible for his Soldier’s Pocket Bible which he issued to the army.
A Threat to King James
In 1620 the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth with their Bibles and a conviction derived from those Bibles of establishing a new nation. The Bible was not the King James Version. When James I became king of England in 1603, there were two translations of the Bible in use; the Geneva Bible was the most popular, and the Bishops’ Bible was used for reading in churches.King James disapproved of the Geneva Bible because of its Calvinistic leanings. He also frowned on what he considered to be seditious marginal notes on key political texts. A marginal note for Exodus 1:9 indicated that the Hebrew midwives were correct in disobeying the Egyptian king’s orders, and a note for 2 Chronicles 15:16 said that King Asa should have had his mother executed and not merely deposed for the crime of worshipping an idol. The King James Version of the Bible grew out of the king’s distaste for these brief but potent doctrinal commentaries. He considered the marginal notes to be a political threat to his kingdom.At a conference at Hampton Court in 1604 with bishops and theologians, the king listened to a suggestion by the Puritan scholar John Reynolds that a new translation of the Bible was needed. Because of his distaste for the Geneva Bible, James was eager for a new translation. “I profess,” he said, “I could never yet see a Bible well translated in English; but I think that, of all, that of Geneva is the worst.”

In addition to being a threat to the king of England, the Geneva Bible was outspokenly anti-Roman Catholic, as one might expect. Rome was still persecuting Protestants in the sixteenth century. Keep in mind that the English translators were exiles from a nation that was returning to the Catholic faith under a queen who was burning Protestants at the stake. The anti-Roman Catholic sentiment is most evident in the Book of Revelation: “The beast that cometh out of the bottomless pit (Rev. 11:7) is the Pope, which hath his power out of hell and cometh thence.” In the end, the Geneva Bible was replaced by the King James Version, but not before it helped to settle America.
Back in Geneva
Calvin knew that the job of reforming a city seemingly bent on destruction would not be easy. “There is no place in the world that I fear more,” he confessed. Immorality was at an all-time high, with gambling, street brawls, drunkenness, adultery, and public indecency common everywhere. But not all was dark. When he arrived on September 13, 1541, a change had come over the city. The people actually wanted him to return. The city officials bestowed honors on him and apologized for the way he had been treated. The Council members assured Calvin that they would cooperate with him to restore the Gospel and moral order. The businessmen were equally relieved to learn that Calvin might return. Calvin was overwhelmed by the outward display of affection and decided to return to Geneva. On September 16th he wrote to Farel: “Your wish is granted. I am held fast here. May God give His blessing.”
Calvin’s Contributions
Calvin continued his work of reformation, not by a heavy-handed use of the civil magistrate, but with the preaching of God’s Word and the building of the Church. Church government was lacking, not only in Geneva, but all over Protestant Europe. Calvin understood that only the Church, not the State, could define orthodox theology and bring about true long-term reform. According to the Bible, the State and the Church were jurisdictionally separate. Each had its God-ordained area of jurisdiction and authority – one civil (the State) and one ecclesiastical (the Church). Even so, Calvin insisted, both Church and State were ordained by God and obligated to follow His laws as they applied to their specific appointed jurisdictions.Calvin’s view that God reigns everywhere and over all things led him to develop the biblical idea that man can serve God in every area of life – church, civil government, education, art, music, business, law, journalism. There was no need to be a priest, a monk, or a nun to get closer to God. God is glorified in everyday work and family life. Calvin’s teaching led directly to what has become known as the “Protestant work ethic.” Individual initiative leads to economic productivity as Christians work out their faith in their callings before God.Stricken with tuberculosis, Calvin preached his last sermon on February 6, 1564. Although bedridden until his death on May 27, 1564, Calvin continued to work, extending his legacy in the lives of those who sat under his teaching.
DeleteThanks to the Institutes of the Christian Religion, his printed sermons, the Academy, his commentaries on nearly every book of the Bible (except the Song of Solomon and the Book of Revelation), and his pattern of Church and Civil government, Calvin shaped the thought and motivated the ideals of Protestantism in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungry, Scotland, and the English Puritans; many of whom settled in America. The great American historian George Bancroft stated, “He that will not honor the memory, and respect the influence of Calvin, knows but little of the origin of American liberty.” The famous German historian, Leopold von Ranke, wrote, “John Calvin was the virtual founder of America.” John Adams, the second president of the United States, wrote: “Let not Geneva be forgotten or despised. Religious liberty owes it most respect.”
The Geneva Bible is unique among all other Bibles. It was the first Bible to use chapters and numbered verses and became the most popular version of its time because of the extensive marginal notes. These notes, written by Reformation leaders such as John Calvin, John Knox, Miles Coverdale, William Whittingham, Anthony Gilby, and others, were included to explain and interpret the Scriptures for the common people.
DeleteThe marginal notes of the Geneva Bible enraged the Catholic Church, since the notes deemed the act of confession to men – the Catholic Bishops – as unjustified by Holy Script. Man should confess to God only; man’s private life was man’s private life. The notes also infuriated King James, since they allowed disobedience to tyrannical kings. King James went so far as to make ownership of the Geneva Bible a felony. He then proceeded to make his own version of the Bible, but without the marginal notes that had so disturbed him. Consequently, during King James’s reign, and into the reign of Charles I, the Geneva Bible was gradually replaced by the King James Bible.

My conclusion is he is holding all other translations up to the King James Version of 1611. If my conclusion is correct and he holds the King James Version above all others, then he should be aware of the facts concerning the "authorized" version of the Biblical Cannon.
The KJV came about when King James ascended to the throne of England in 1604. At the time James became King, the Church of England had been around for a hundred years and came into being after King Henry VIII severed ties to the Catholic Church in 1534 and was established as an Act of Parliament known as the Act of Supremacy. Although the Church was established under Henry VIII, it was Queen Elizabeth II that became the supreme governor of the early Church of England. During the period of 1534 to 1604, there were more than five monarchs that influenced the Church of England, most notably King Edward VI, Queen Mary I, who co-reined with her husband, King Phillip, and Queen Elizabeth I. Each one of these monarchs was considered to be the Supreme Head of the Church of England and each one had differing influences on the Church. Also, it should be noted that each one had, in turn, a Biblical Cannon which they each approved and would bear there names.
Without getting into to much history, the first Bible authorized and used by the Church of England was the Great Bible, the first English bible, which was commissioned by King Henry VIII in 1539, and became known as King Henry's Bible. The next version is known as the Geneva Bible which was not actually authorized by the Church of England but became very popular during this period and was a revision of both the Tyndale Bible and the Great Bible in 1560. The Bishops' Bible followed in 1568 but was never as popular as the Geneva Bible. Several revisions were made to Bishops' Bible up to King James reign.
It was at this time that King James I wished for a Bible that would bear his name and unite the current Bibles to one literary book. He gave the job to 47 scholars all of whom were members of the Church of England. Although they are often referred to as "translators", what they did was simply compare the text of the Bibles and other reference materials that King James had given his approval to use. Very little Greek and Hebrew translation was required by James. He, James, gave the translators instructions intended to "guarantee that the new version will conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its belief in an ordained clergy". To alter from these instructions could mean death to the translators. Work began in ernest in January, 1604 and was completely overseen by King James. Under his commission, he gave strict instruction that the text of the Bishops' Bible be used as the primary guide for the translators to use. However, the translators found this approach to be very problematic, therefore King James later authorized a pre- approved list of other Bibles and writings that could be used by the translators. These other writings included the Tyndale Bible, the Coverdale Bible, Matthews Bible, the Great Bible, and even the Geneva Bible, as well as a few other scholarly writings of the period.
It is important to recognize the purpose of King James wishes in rewriting the earlier versions of the English Bible. First was the idea to consolidate the many versions of the Holy Cannon of the day, second to have a newer version of the Bible for which James could attach his identity to and third to attempt to force a replacement Cannon over the very popular Geneva Bible, mainly due to its political influences that were rejected by James. As the King of England he was considered the highest ranking official in the Church. This gave him all authority to oversee and deem what was permitted to remain in the new writing and that which would not. His paramount desire was to insure the episcopal structure of the Church of England and to remove the Puritan influence of other writings of the day, for which the Puritans were persecuted for before and after James' rule. There is no argument against this! This new cannon, in short, was to reflect James' own beliefs and decisions concerning the Church of England, period. There are volumes and volumes of historical proof to this end.
DeleteI will agree that there are far to many "translations" of the Holy scripture today and some are quiet self serving but the same can be easily said of the King James Version of 1611. And for David W. Daniels and Jack McElroy to attack the Geneva Version is absolutely absurd. This is one of the only versions in print today where actual Greek and Hebrew scholars went back to all known sources of original manuscripts and translated directly from these ancient writings to forge the truth for accurate translation. No such attempt was used by the translators of the King James Bible. I do not dismiss the KJV but instead see it as what it truly is; a version of the Bible compiled from the writings of many other translations and Bibles of its time.
Before someone puts forth an opinion or belief they should first be fully aware of their facts and not insert their personal beliefs to replace true facts.

I absolutely LOVE the Geneva Bible better than the KJV. I find what they’re saying the opposite to be true.
The Geneva Bible is much more specific. The below verse is a prime example. They do not mince words. They say things, I think, much more clearly than the KJV.
One scripture that really gets my goat is Matthew 24:33. The parable of the fig tree in King James they have the word......it… ....In place of… ...The kingdom of God…. That’s pretty bad.
The Geneva Bible says it like it is. It doesn’t try to mince words. There are many words that KJV changed.

The Geneva Bible came before the KJV. It was widely accepted and was the
Bible the people brought as their Bible on the Mayflower. I don't mind saying I like
both of them.

King James also abused his powers to take the Geneva Bible out of the market by banning the Geneva Bible and even imprison those who distribute it or using it, which led to the Puritans, also known as the Pilgrims feeing England to the American colonies on the May Flower, known as the Plymouth Brethren, landing at Plymouth, forming the Plymouth Colony, later known as Massachusetts. They took the Geneva bible instead. The Geneva Bible was seen as a threat by King James to his so-called Divine Right to rule, as well as to the Anglican Church and to Roman Catholicism.
The King James Version was out of pure opposition to the Geneva Bible to defend the Divine Right to Rule and Church hierarchy of Bishops in opposition to self-governance and God-given individual rights. This was also since the British Monarchy believed that the Kings have the absolute divine right to even be in charge of the church, which is not biblical. The Geneva Bible is an excellent translation, literally, which strengthen the Protestant Reformation

knpstrr Calvin did not write the Geneva Bible. The Geneva Bible relies on the Tyndale Bible and uses the Textus Receptus as it source. It was good enough for English Protestants and John Bunya the author of Pilgrim’s Progress. I believe Joy;Calvin was already dead when the Geneva Bible came out in 1570.

The Geneva Bible was translated by men who literally risked their lives by doing so -- whereas the KJV was translated by people paid by a king and in safety. Hmmmmmm. I have the Tolle Legge 1599 translation of the Geneva (with modern spelling and lettering) and I would DEFINITELY prefer it to be broken into two separate volumes: one for scripture and one for footnotes. Why? Because even if you buy the Geneva the size of a largish dictionary, there are SO MANY footnotes that it forces ALL of the print to be so small (even though the footnotes in the Tolle Legge translation are in even smaller print -- which I need a magnifying glass to read).

Haha, are you scholars or just talking heads? King James commissioned a new copy of the Geneva bible (now known as the King James Version, such a humble man to name a bible after himself) because the protestants who fled persecution and found refuge in Geneva, Switzerland were using the Geneva text, and thus, causing problems to his throne. Any text the government outlaws, especially a Biblical version, should be esteemed. These gentlemen obviously don't know history and have no clue what they are talking about

The King James Version wins. "Christ died without a cause" is a foolish rendition and an insult to Christ. ""Is dead" in KJV acknowledges the daily process of sanctification. This is changed to "died" in GNV, changing the present to the past. "Abrogate" suggests that you can lose God's grace. "Charity" is a better rendition of God's love than mere man's "love" is.

Bible believing vato yes, king James did persecute those who opposed him or the bible that he gave an order to be put out. I read a little bit about it in a book called "puritan rebel".

Same wording as my Geneva Bible, the ORIGINAL full on English translation, written by exiles and martyrs without being linked to/controlled by a monarch who also happens to be in total control/head of the Church of England; not unlike a pope. Also pretty much the same in all bibles. If only the Bible was referred to as the KING JAMES VERSION!
