Is the Lords supper for the Body of Christ today?
Aside from the ritual of communion, as practiced by the Catholic church
which is particularly perverse in that they actually believe the cracker
and wine really become the actual body and blood of Christ, there are
many Christian churches that practice the Lords supper, along with their
other Jewish ordinances of keeping the law, water baptism, repenting of
sins, confessing of sins, tithing, etc etc.
With the Lords supper, the case has been suggested that it was not an OT ordinance, but a NT celebration endorsed by Paul.
However, close study shows that this was not the case, and Paul did not instruct us to ever celebrate the lords supper.
The
Body of Christ today and our corresponding program is based on Faith;
we DO NOT participate in the Lords Supper (Israel's Program) and neither
did our apostle PAUL whom actually reproved and corrected the
Corinthians NOT to come together for this reason but to come together
for 'edification' which we will closely examine in this study.
Many
disciples who practiced "The Lords Supper (kingdom saints)", who had no
foresight of the Mystery Program were commanded to practice The Lords
Supper until "The 2nd Coming" (yet their program was interrupted) and
they came together with the Body of Christ members and brought this
practice with them in Corinth whom Paul rebuked and corrected.
First understand the book of 1st Corinthians was written in Acts 19 at
Ephesus (Paul visited Corinth in 18:1) and is KEY to understand that
Acts/Corinthians has transitional elements with the diminishing away of
Israel's program as Paul is establishing the Body of Christ during his
provoking ministry.
The book of 1st Corinthians is a book of REPROOF & Correction ; our Apostle is NOT praising the Corinthians :
1 Corinthians 11:17 KJV
[17] Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
+ I praise you NOT +
Paul is saying there is heresies among you and when you come together it's NOT to eat the "Lords Supper" :
1 Corinthians 11:19-20 KJV
[19]
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved
may be made manifest among you. [20] When ye come together therefore
into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.
+NOT to eat the Lord's Supper+
The Corinthians were
+Cutting in Line
+Letting others hunger
+Getting Drunk
They
could've very well ate and drank at their house not to have only an
excuse to get together, just for these matters ; Paul says, "I praise
you not":
1 Corinthians 11:21-22 KJV
[21] For in eating every
one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another
is drunken. [22] What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or
despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I
say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
Paul is shaming the Corinthians in how when they come together it is "NOT for the better, but for the WORSE" :
1 Corinthians 11:17-18 KJV
[17]
Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come
together not for the better, but for the worse. [18] For first of all,
when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions
among you; and I partly believe it.
Modern Christendom equates
breaking of bread and communion always to 'The Lords Supper', yet in the
bible this is not always the case (breaking of bread and communion
doesn't always take place on Passover either).
Breaking of Bread
This
is simply meaning to come together to eat; something done when
fellowshipping, certainly not 'only' tied to the Lords Supper in every
instance in the scriptures.
Example
Acts 2:46 KJV
[46] And
they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread
from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of
heart,
The disciples would come together to 'break bread' on the
first day of the week around the same time 1 Corinthians was written in
Acts 20:7 to fellowship :
Acts 20:7 KJV
[7] And upon the
first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread,
Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued
his speech until midnight.
Communion
Simply means to : Communicate, Partnership, and Fellowship; see G2842 (κοινωνία)
These
are all concepts (communion + breaking bread) not always being applied
to the Lords Supper as we see in 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (the following
is the verse that many mistake) :
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 KJV
[16]
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the
blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of
the body of Christ? [17] For we being many are one bread, and one body:
for we are all partakers of that one bread.
This verse is in the
middle of a Chapter speaking of Israel and the eating of things
sacrificed unto idols (read 1 Corinthians 10:1-7;18); these people are
NOT celebrating the Passover like the 12 did with Jesus in the upper
room. They are simply fellowshipping together, and eating. Signifying
something yet very special about THE BODY as an example.
The verses that every
denomination wants to use to PROVE Paul partook in the Lords Supper is
Grossly misinterpreted and we will examine what is being said here in
these exact verses.
Notice FIRST that Paul is speaking of the NIGHT Jesus was BETRAYED in TIME PAST in Jesus's Earthly Ministry :
Paul
RECEIVED this information from the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ and
DELIVERED this unto us. This verse does not say Paul received bread and
delivered The Lords Supper unto us.
1 Corinthians 11:23-32 KJV
[23]
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you,
That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
[24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it , and said, Take, eat:
this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
[25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped,
saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as
ye drink it , in remembrance of me. [26] For as often as ye eat this
bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
[27] Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the
Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
[28] But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread,
and drink of that cup. [29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily,
eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's
body. [30] For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many
sleep. [31] For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
[32] But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we
should not be condemned with the world.
Now I am the biggest KJV
advocate you will find, and I have come to realization that the KJV
Translators are NOT responsible for the RED LETTERS in the KJV but
Klopsch, who Published the first Red Letter in 1899 - 1901 way after the
1611 was published.
^Question^
Who took the bread here 'Paul' or 'Jesus' :
1 Corinthians 11:23 KJV
[23]
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you,
That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
^Answer^
Jesus took the bread : not Paul
The day Jesus was betrayed in
Time Past (Lords Table in the Upper Room what Jesus was saying to the 12).
^Question^
Who's the "He" in the verse?
Who's the "you here"?
1 Corinthians 11:24 KJV
[24]
And when he had given thanks, he brake it , and said, Take, eat: this
is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
^Answer^
He = JESUS
You = The 12 in the upper room (Time Past) NOT the Body of Christ.
Last Question
What's the difference between :
1
Corinthians 11:32 KJV [32] But when we are judged, we are chastened of
the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
And
1 Corinthians 4:3 KJV
[3] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
Answer : The Speaker ((11:33 Jesus is speaking // 4:3 Paul is speaking))
Now read these words of Jesus again with this in mind :
Red letters
1 Corinthians 11:26-32 KJV
[26]
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the
Lord's death till he come. [27] Wherefore whosoever shall eat this
bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of
the body and blood of the Lord. [28] But let a man examine himself, and
so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. [29] For he that
eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to
himself, not discerning the Lord's body. [30] For this cause many are
weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. [31] For if we would judge
ourselves, we should not be judged. [32] But when we are judged, we are
chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
Notice
starting at verse 27 JESUS (not Paul) is speaking about eating
'Damnation' at Passover which we know is NOT possible in the BUT NOW nor
is this about the Body of Christ where today we can be guilty of 'the
body of blood of the Lord' and blamed for eating unworthily when the
Body of Christ is blameless (1 Corinthians 1:8) sealed/ forgiven and
justified by the blood of Christ. Who is this verse speaking of?
Luke 22:3-4 KJV
[3]
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of
the twelve. [4] And he went his way, and communed with the chief
priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
((Verse 23 - shows us the context takes place the 'Night Jesus was Betrayed'.))
1 Corinthians 11:23 KJV
[23]
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you,
That the Lord Jesus. the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
The Night Jesus was betrayed :
Matthew 26:21-22 KJV
[21] And
as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall
betray me. [22] And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one
of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
Judas has a chance to repent BUT Judas partook unworthily- "Thou hast said."
Matthew 26:24-25 KJV
[24]
The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by
whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had
not been born. [25] Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said,
Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
Damnation is
not only "been good for that man if he had not been born"; BUT this
damnation takes place when Judas who ate/partook unworthily and then
ends with Acts 1:18 unto eternal damnation.
Acts 1:18 KJV
[18]
Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling
headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
--- Doctrine of The Table -
Now
this verse shows us 'The Doctrine of The Table' which Jesus will sit
down with the 12 and the little flock with His believing remnant at "The
Table" (his Bride) after His second coming in the millennial kingdom.
Luke 22:30 KJV
[30] That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Notice
the Lords Supper is associated with the JEWISH Passover and Jesus will
not eat again until it be "Fulfilled In the 'Kingdom' of God". (Earthly
Program)
Luke 22:15-16 KJV
[15] And he said unto them, With
desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
[16] For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Matthew 26:29 KJV
[29] But I
say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine,
until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
In Proverbs Jesus is mostly referred to as "Wisdom".
-Foreshadowing Proverbs
9:1-5 KJV
[1]
Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: [2]
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also
furnished her table. [3] She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth
upon the highest places of the city, [4] Whoso is simple, let him turn
in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, [5]
Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
Doctrine of the table
Psalm 23:5-6 KJV
[5]
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou
anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. [6] Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the
house of the Lord for ever.
The Table was suppose to be a
BLESSING for Israel and now it is a CURSE 'except' for the believing
remnant in the millennial kingdom which shall sit at the table. Yet the
table is a 'snare' and a 'stumbling block' for them.
Romans 11:8-9 KJV
[8]
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber,
eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;)
unto this day. [9] And David saith, Let their table be made a snare,
and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
This doctrine was spoken as early as Gen 14 :
Genesis 14:18-22 KJV
[18]
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was
the priest of the most high God. [19] And he blessed him, and said,
Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
[20] And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine
enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. [21] And the king
of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to
thyself. [22] And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine
hand unto the Lord , the most high God, the possessor of heaven and
earth,
Finally brethren you're at liberty and under grace take note of this last scripture :
1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV
[31] Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

When we get water baptized in this time of God's dispensation of grace, all we get is wet!
Rosario DiPeri
Publicly shared - Oct. 13. 2015WATER BAPTISM
It's extremely important to rightly divide on the subject of Israel's water baptism as opposed to our baptism by the Spirit into the body of Christ.
Although Paul did baptize a few during his Acts ministry to the Jew first, he never instructs any to be water baptized in his epistles. Just the opposite. Paul said that Christ sent him NOT to baptize...
1 Corinthians 1:17-18 KJV
[17] For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. [18] For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Paul also said that there is one baptism...
Ephesians 4:3-6 KJV
[3] Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; [5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
That one baptism is the baptism by the Spirit (spiritual baptism) into the body of Christ...
1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV
[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
This spiritual baptism is our identity with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ...
Romans 6:3-6 KJV
[3] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him , that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Colossians 2:10-15 KJV
[10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: [11] In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: [12] Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Paul water baptized no one in Acts 19. These men had submitted to John's water baptism before Paul got to them...
Acts 19:1-7 KJV
[1] And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, [2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. [4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. [5] When they heard this , they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. [7] And all the men were about twelve.
It's likely that Apollos had preached John's baptism to these twelve men. Apollos had been in Ephesus preaching John's baptism prior to Paul's arrival there...
Acts 18:24-25 KJV
[24] And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. [25] This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
Paul does make a reference to Israel's water baptism in his defense of the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15...
1 Corinthians 15:29 KJV
[29] Else what shall they (those of Israel who had responded to the kingdom gospel preaching of John Baptist, Peter, the eleven, and Phillip in the gospels and Acts 2, 4, & 8) do which are baptized for the dead (Jesus) if the dead (Jesus) rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
John Baptist, Peter and the preachers of the kingdom gospel could NEVER say that Christ "sent me not to baptize", because indeed He did...
John 1:19-34 KJV
[19] And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? [20] And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. [21] And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. [22] Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? [23] He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. [24] And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. [25] And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? [26] John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; [27] He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. [28] These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. [29] The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. [30] This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. [31] And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. [32] And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. [33] And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. [34] And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Mark 16:14-18 KJV
[14] Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. [15] And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. [16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. [17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Matthew 28:16-20 KJV
[16] Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. [17] And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. [18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
You will do well to study out the truths I've presented here... Not every use of the word "baptize" or "baptism" refers to water. If it's written by Israel's apostles, it's water. If it's written by Paul, it's spiritual (except as noted in 1 Corinthians 1 & 15, as noted previously).
Regarding Acts 19. Most folks breeze through the first several verses without a careful study of what takes place.
Most folks read that Paul "rebaptized" these disciples. This did NOT happen! Verse 5 ties back to verse 4. These folks had heard about John's baptism and were previously baptized accordingly when they heard. These are kingdom believers having responded in faith with water baptism to the message of John prior to Paul's arrival in Ephesus. As an apostle, demonstrating his apostolic authority and power, all Paul does is lay hands on them so they could receive the Holy Ghost. (Acts 8:18 KJV
[18] And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,). In my mind, these folks had responded to Apollos's ministry (before Aquila and Priscilla helped him). ( Acts 18:24-25 KJV
[24] And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. [25] This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.)
Types of baptism in the Bible
Noah’s type baptism
Peter mentions that eight people were saved by water in an ark as a type of a future baptism. (Gen 6:13; 1 Peter 3:20-21)
Baptism unto Moses
Paul presents Israel’s baptism unto Moses “in the cloud and in the sea”. (1 Cor 10:1-2; Exo 14:29)
Israel’s ceremonial cleansings
These cleansing rituals were required under the Mosaic Law for the cleansing of the people. (Num 19:13; Lev 11:25; Exo 19:14; Exo 30:17-21; Heb 9:10)
Levitical priesthood baptisms
These washings were required in order to become a priest under the Law of Moses.
(Exo 29:4; Lev 8:6; Num 8:7)
Traditional Jewish baptisms
These baptisms were not mandated under the Law but were part of Jewish tradition.
(Mt 15:1-2; Mk 7:1-9; Lk 11:38)
John’s baptism
John came to Israel baptizing with water for the remission of sins so that they could enter the promised kingdom. (Mt 3:5-6; Mk 1:4; Lk 3:3; Jn 1:31; Lk 7:29; Acts 10:37)
Jesus’ baptism by John
Jesus, who knew no sin, was baptized by John to fulfill all righteousness. (Mat 3:13-17; Mk 1:9-10)
Baptism with fire
Jesus would baptize the nation with fire as they went through the tribulation. This trial baptism would damn the unfaithful to hell. (Isa 4:4; Mal 3:2-3; Mt 3:11; Lk 3:16)
Jesus’ baptism unto death
Jesus’ second baptism which he accomplished at the cross where he was identified with the sins of Israel and the world. (Mt 20:22-23; Mk 10:38-39; Luke 12:50)
Pentecostal water baptism
Peter’s presentation of water baptism for the remission of sins in the name of Jesus. (Acts 2:38; Mk 16:16; Mt 28:19; Acts 22:16; Eze 36:25)
Pentecostal Spirit baptism
This is the baptism with the Holy Spirit by Jesus Christ from heaven poured out upon the believing remnant of Israel with signs and powers following. (Isa 44:3; Mt 3:11; Mk 1:8; Lk 24:49; Acts 2:17-18, 38; Acts 8:15-17; Acts 11:16)
Gentile baptism of Cornelius
Cornelius was baptized with the Holy Spirit as a sign to Peter. Peter subsequently baptizes Cornelius and the other Spirit-filled Gentiles with water. (Acts 10:45-48)
Baptism for the dead
This baptism is debated heavily and is most likely synonymous with one of the other baptisms. If this is true, “for the dead” would signify the circumstance under which those believers were baptized. (1 Cor 15:29)
Baptism into Christ
The only baptism taught by Paul which identifies the believer with Christ, his death, and resurrection. This baptism is performed by the Spirit and does not include water.
(1 Cor 12:13; Eph 4:5; Col 2:12; Gal 3:27; Rom 6:3-4)

ReplyDeleteTHE TRUTH ON WATER BAPTISM
ReplyDeleteYou will be amazed at the reasons Christians give for WATER BAPTIZING. One of them is that water baptism is SYMBOLIC. You can't find such a teaching in the Bible!
Water baptism was part and parcel of ISRAEL'S GOSPEL of the KINGDOM. In his EARTHLY ministry, Christ preached it and sent the 12 to go and water baptize. Water baptism did not end when Christ came out of the water. If that were true Christ would not have instructed the 12 to baptize.
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" (Matthew 28:19 KJV)
"15 And he said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the GOSPEL to every creature.
16 He that BELIEVETH and is BAPTIZED shall be saved; he that BELIEVETH not shall be damned." (Mark 16:15-16 KJV)
Under Israel's LAW programme, WATER BAPTISM was needed for salvation. God commanded it! Water baptism did not necessarily save, but God required it as an expression of FAITH. If someone said they believed God and refused to be WATER BAPTIZED, then that would be evidence that they did not believe God.
In Acts 2, when talking to ISRAEL, Peter, following Christ's instructions, preached water baptism.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be BAPTIZED everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38 KJV)
Repentance and Water baptism were preached for the remission of sins! You couldn't preached the GOSPEL of the KINGDOM without mentioning water baptism. It was part and parcel of ISRAEL'S gospel. In his first letter to ISRAEL, Peter emphasizes the role of WATER BAPTISM in their salvation.
"The like figure whereunto even BAPTISM doth also now SAVE us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" (1 Peter 3:21 KJV)
However, we know that ISRAEL did not repent. Their final act of rebellion was when they stoned Stephen in Acts 7. God temporarily set the NATION of ISRAEL aside and suspended their programme. The 12 did NOT go to all nations. They confined the preaching of the GOSPEL of the KINGDOM to ISRAEL. God then raised a NEW apostle to go to GENTILE nations with a NEW message called the GOSPEL of GRACE.
When they realized that God had called Paul, they water baptized him since that was the truth they knew. Even Paul baptized a few people, but when Christ gave him further revelation, he stopped baptizing. He realized that WATER BAPTISM was NOT part of the GOSPEL of GRACE. That is why he was able to say:
"For Christ sent me NOT to baptize, but to preach the GOSPEL: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." (1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV)
In all his 13 epistles to the GENTILES, Paul never talks about WATER BAPTISM because it is not required under today's dispensation of GRACE. Today, FAITH is enough for salvation. We are saved by GRACE through FAITH without WATER BAPTISM.
Today, water baptism has no spiritual significance. It is an exercise in futility. The ONE baptism we have today is SPIRITUAL baptism which happens the moment we believe the gospel.
"One Lord, one faith, ONE baptism," (Ephesians 4:5 KJV)
"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?" (Romans 6:3 KJV)
We are baptized by the Holy Spirit once we believe and trust in Christ's finished work on the cross.
